Tim Schwartz is a second year graduate student in UCSD’s VisArts Department.  He works between sculpture, installation, and information with a focus on deciphering history and our society.

UCI -  Comparative Literature

Michelle Cho is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine. Her work examines the ways that contemporary engagements with visual media and image-making practices shape modes of sociality, provide spaces for affective experience, and determine or mirror psychic topographies. Her interests also include the affect and temporality of modernization in East Asian cinema, psychoanalysis, memory, subjectivity, phenomenology, and theories of diaspora.

Northwestern University

Katherine Newbold is a Ph.D. student in Northwestern University’s Screen Cultures
program. She is currently working on issues of recuperative or revisited television, and
memory and temporality in the new media archive.

CalArts and Occidental College

Adrià Julià has exhibited professionally at local and international venues for the past twelve years. His most recent solo exhibitions have been hosted by LA><ART, Los Angeles; Galería Soledad Lorenzo, Madrid, Spain; The Room Gallery, Irvine; Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach; Artists Space, New York; Sala Rekalde, Bilbao, Spain; Associates, London; Palau de la Virreina, Barcelona, Spain. Julià is a grantee of Art Matters, American Center Foundation, Fundación Arte y Derecho-Vegap, Institut Ramon Llull and EDAC. In 2002 he was awarded the Altadis Prize.

For the past fifteen years Débora Antscherl has been translating a variety of media. Her subtitles and captions have been featured by New Line Cinema, Fox, Universal and Warner Bros. among many other large studios, and her translations have been commissioned by the Barcelona-based Tusquets Editorial, the Montehermoso Cultural Center in Vitoria, Basque Country, Spain, and Apartamento Magazine in Barcelona, Spain. She works on a continuous basis with conceptual artists such as Adrià Julià, Kaoru Katayama, Minerva Cuevas, CW Winter, Tracey Rose and Daniel Martinez, and is the translation specialist for art galleries The Project in New York and the recently closed MC in Los Angeles.

Jaimie Baron is a Ph.D. Candidate in Cinema and Media Studies at UCLA. She is currently finishing a dissertation about documentary, the archive and the construction of history. Her work has been published in The Velvet Light Trap and in Discourse.

Cristiani Bilhalva is a Ph.D. candidate in Critical Studies at the School of Cinematic Arts, USC, where she concentrates on the interaction between narrative & non-narrative languages with social change, minority experience, aesthetics, commercial cinema, and the avant-garde. She holds a B.A. in History from PUC-RS, Brazil, and an MFA in Screenwriting from USC.

Elena Bonomo is a PhD student in Critical Studies at the School of Cinematic Arts, University of Southern California, where she holds a Provost’s Fellowship.  She was awarded a MA with Distinction in English and Film Studies from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom in 2005.  After being inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kenyon College in 2004 with a BA in English.

Northwestern University

Yelena Lorman is a in first-year PhD student at Northwestern University in the Departments of Comparative Literary Studies and Slavic Languages and Literatures.  She holds a BA in Philosophy and a BA in Literature with Honors from Claremont McKenna College, where she completed a Senior Thesis on Russian translations of Shakespeare.  Yelena has a long-standing interest in both linguistic and media translation and is particularly interested in the adaptation of text onto visual media.
